The Nerazzurri boss reveals that if he were the club President, he would put complete support behind the troubled coach; insists the Napoli loss was not his fault.
Following the 1-0 loss to Napoli, the Inter coach was asked what he would do in the position of club president Massimo Moratti. The irritated Claudio Ranieri replied:
“If I were the President? I don’t know, you’d best ask him. If I were the President then I’d say I confirm Ranieri 100 per cent as it’s not his fault.”
The Inter coach insisted that many critics are sponsoring him to be replaced, but he will not going to take a step back.
“I won’t resign because I believe in this team, they fought hard again tonight and that is all.”
Ranieri is under tremendous pressure, having lost seven of his last eight games with the Nerazzurri.
The tinker-man switched to a 3-5-2 formation during the Napoli game and made two half-time substitutions. The former Roma boss insisted that he is trying to bring the best out of his players, and will keep changing the formations
until he finds the correct one.
Ranieri tried using the same team that did well against Olympique Marseille, but they could not deliver the results.
He commented that the defeat to Napoli defined a horrible February for the club.
“Tonight we struggled against Napoli, whereas we had better chances against Marseille. There are positive and negative spells, while this was a Black February for us.”
The Nerazzurri manager, however, believes that the team has the potential and hunger to turn things around for the club, and insisted that the road to recovery will be slow and difficult.
He said that the team is working hard, and he is hoping that they will emerge from their current depression one game at a time.
Inter Milan are placed 7th in the league table, and even a UEFA Europa League qualification is looking an uphill task for La Beneamata. Inter will host Catania in their next game on Sunday, March 4.
