Yes its like that only.

Life continues after death and develops another body for itself. At death it simply departs from its body.

Every menta/physical action (except selfless action) we do leaves an impression around our subtle body (soul). Every such impression is called as Samskara in hinduism. Every samskara sprouts into its bitter or sweet fruit, sometimes within the same birth, sometimes in the future births.

People are born  with favourable or unfavourable enviorment and body. Its due to the sprouting of samkara of Good or bad deed in that birth.

Thus wise always advise to do only good deeds, irrespective of the troubles of this life, so that future, including future lives of the person improves.

Only persons who go beyond body can experience this truth themselves.
