I believe we evolved from something like a ape because...?

Question

we can't figure out where we evolved from. The answer seems to be above our ability to answer. If it is above us then "what is above us:. Obviously there is some intelligence we do not understand. Saying it just happened is not acceptable to me. Do you accept "it just happened""just because".

Yes we are still an ape and are previous ancestor Homo heidlebergensis was also an ape.  Some will still put African archaic Homo sapiens between us and Heidlebergensis and some prefer Ergaster... but they are all apes!  So we might not have completely figured it out, but we do KNOW that we evolved from an ape no matter which route you choose to reach Humans.  Saying that their is "some intelligence that we do not understand" is irrational so I don't accept that.  Also, it didn't "just happen" the mechanisms of evolution are very dtraightforward and obvious in every level of life.

It is beyond our ability to answer precisely because the fossil record is incomplete, at least our present knowledge of it.  More fossils will be found and the gaps will shrink and there will still be people that note the gaps in knowledge instead of looking at the available evidence and making logical theories.  The obvious conclusion based on the fossil record and DNA studies is that we share a common ancestor with the great apes.  That common ancestor was also an ape.

We know pretty well where we evolved from - humans and the great apes shared a common ancestor in the relatively recent past, geologically speaking. Go back some more, and all primates have a common ancestor. Even farther, and it's all mammals. At some point in the early days of the planet's life carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and the other elements combined in just the right way to spark life.

This is a common position in philosophy of religion which was lambasted long ago, and for good reason.  What it amounts to is a so called "god of the gaps."  In other words, you make an argument from ignorance and claim that people will never find out how some thing or another works, and therefore it must be some higher being responsible for whatever it is you do not understand (already spurious logic at work there).  It also has the problem that if it did prove some higher being(s) existed, that would in no way prove that it was a Christian/Muslim/Jewish God any more than any other.

There is nothing threatening about evolution to a Christian, and the idea that the two could not possibly coincide is actually relatively new.  This does not mean that the theory of evolution is complete; indeed, there are many facets that we still do not understand or that are not thoroughly convincing as far as chalking up all things to randomness.  

It would be best if you tried your hardest to understand what is entailed in evolution so that you could make more informed decisions and perhaps even offer convincing arguments concerning your stance.  Whatever your current religious views, your (probably self imposed) ignorance does not lend credence to it.

Actually, Earth is like Australia.  Australia was a prison colony many years ago. England would send all of their terrible people there because the couldn't escape.  Millions of years ago, our alien ancestors decided to make this planet a prison colony for their hardened criminals.  So they were sent here and that is how we got here.  We are descendants of Alien Criminals!  :)
