Question:

I bid on ebay, and no change?

I bid on ebay, and was the first bidder, but the starting bid price didn't change to my bidding price. I've never used ebay before, so that's probably why I'm asking this question. And if it says bid history 1, does that count the starting bid?

  1. You just entered your max bid. It's the maximum amount eBay will automatically bid for you if someone else bids higher then the current bid price. So if the current bid was $0.99 and you put your max bid as $2.00 your still bidding $0.99 until someone bids higher than that. And if someone bids more than $2.00 than you're outbid and have to raise your max bid.

  2. The history thing should show the first bid.  And it could be, if your bid isn't showing, that there is a minimum that the seller is willing to take.  I didn't think it would accept a bid under the "starting bid", which is what the seller wants to start with (says it's $3).  So you must bid the $3 or higher to get it going.  So say you're willing to pay up to $10 for this item.  You bid "$10", and the first bid should show that it's yours, and show $3.......the minimum starting bid.  Then, say John Doe shows up, and he wants the item too.  He bids $5.  Since you're willing to give $10, the bid would still be yours, but now it has jumped above his $5 bid.  The system should continue to outbid him for your sake until he gives up, or your $10 max is reached.  The system will tell John Doe that he has been outbid until that $10 is reached.  So in essence, he could bid $10.50, and get control (leading bid) of the item.  You'd have to go above that to get it back, etc.  Hope that makes sense. :)

  3. As the opening bidder, your bid will be the starting bid. The service will bid on your behalf, increasing in appropriate increments just enough for you to be the highest bidder until someone bids higher than you.It wouldn't make sense for you to offer a higher bid than the starting bid if no one else has bid yet.

Good luck on the item. Watch out, though, Ebay can become addictive!!

  4. Your first bid is 1. The price will change if someones bids higher than the listed bid, but you will still be higher until someone bids more than the amount that you put in. That is why you can put in the highest that you want to pay, and it will increment up for you (that is bid for you),, but not exceed the last bid amount by more than necessary or more than the max that you put in.
