Question:

I blew the door speakers?

I blew the front door speakers in my 2002 VW Beetle and want to replace them. Also if it matters I have a Blaupunkt Casablanca CD51 head unit (the speakers blew before I put that in though). The problem is I have the monsoon sound system upgrade and from what I've read I would have to bypass the amp in order to replace the speakers. I really don't want to do this but if I have to I guess I will. Is this right and if so how complicated is that? Also I have two tweeters on my dash that are factory and I had read somewhere that the door speakers were woofers. One website recommended buying a whole component set and installing the new tweeters too. Would that be the best thing to do or would that put too much high sound in the front since my old ones still work? Also what kind of speakers do I need to get? I know I need something that is 5 1/4" and is slim but do I get a mid range or a woofer? Please tell me what to do.

  1. you wont need to bypass anything. all you will have to do is take out the speaker(s) that do not work and replace them with the new one.

if you want to retain good sound quality, i would advise you to look into MB Quart components. they are very good, have great sound quality, can get loud, and do not distort.

i own a 02 jetta and it was a pain to replace the door speakers. the OEM speakers are not bolted into the door. they use rivets which have to be drilled out. then i fabricated a small spacer because the speaker i used had a big magnet and the window rail frame would stick to the magnet on the front doors only when the window was rolled all the way down.

i am not 100% sure if your bettle will be similar, but just so you know what type of trouble it might have.

about the tweeter question, it would be good to replace it if you do go with a component setup, or you could add the new tweeter in another location to get a bit louder higher-end frequencies.

  2. You can replace the speakers without bypassing anything.  If you want to leave the tweeters you could just buy a set of 5 1/4 midrange drivers like these http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuse...

and just replace the bad ones. You can also buy factory speaker harnesses so you don't have to cut yours. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/I...
