I boiled eggs last night, left them in the water all day

Question

After i boiled them I left them in the water all day today, are they ok to put in the fridge and eat? The water felt cool when I put my finger in it.

Boiled eggs do not need to be refrigerated. They can sit out at room temp for a week with no problem.

rule of thumb:  once food is done cooking, if it is not for immediate consumption, cool it as quickly as possible!  when you are making hard boiled eggs, it is best to have a large ice bath waiting for you to transfer the eggs into when they are done cooking.  this is for two reasons:  #1:  prevents further cooking of the egg yolks, keeping the yolk nice and yellow (not green, like we have all seen once or twice before) and #2:  inhibits the potential growth of bacteria inside the shell.

eggs are, oddly enough, VERY porous.  this means there are tons of tiny holes in eggs, and those holes do absorb moisture, as well as odors.  if you keep your eggs out at room temperature for longer than the time allowed according to time/temp rules, then you are taking the chance of getting yourself and your family sick.

i wouldn't recommend it personally.  but, it's up to you!  if you are a risk-taker....
