I booked a cruise, but I didn't get a room assignment???

My travel agent booked our cruise for me and my wife, and somehow left us feeling that if we didn't book a specific room at this time, that it would be advantagious to us to let Carnival select our room, that way we could possibly get an upgrade of some sort...Someone please explain this to me. Upgraded to what? We just wanted a simple inside cabin, and what advantage would there be if we got an inside cabin one or two floors up?? I just don't understand how this works, or why we don't just book the room now as well...

  1. i think that way...by letting them alocate the room you are bound to get at least, the type of room you want, and the best scenario is that they will upgrade you. I went on a cruise several years ago by myself and booked the cheapest possible cabin, but when i boarded i was upgraded as i was travelling by myslef. Same type of principle i think

  2. Call or visit your travel agent.  They'll explain how a "guarantee" works.

  3. When you book a cruise you can eithor book a specific cabin or book a what is called  guarantee.  What this means is that you will get a cabin at the level you sign up for a a higer category.  The advantage is that booking a guarantee is always cheaper than booking a specific cabin.  You may also get a significant upgrade.  The downside is that you may end up with a cabin in a noisy location. In all honesty though, there isn't really any difference between a cabin on a lower deck than an upper deck.  Cabin size and service level is the same whether you end up with a cabin on the lowest level or the highest level.

  4. rooms are so insulated you don't hear anything.  the rooms on top will experience the "swaying" more.  they say down under you do not feel much motion sickness.  i have never cruised in an inside cabin but that is what i hear...  you may hear noise outside the elevator, but that's it.  who spends time in their room on a cruise??

  5. I don't think your travel agent is trying to rip you off.  We are going on a cruise and we booked an inside stateroom guarantee because it was the cheapest.  We didn't get to choose our room, but were guaranteed at least an inside stateroom with a king bed.  We got upgraded to an oceanview room on one of the upper decks.  The good thing is, you get at least what you pay for and a lot of times more.

  6. I am booking my first cruise soon and from my understanding of what I read, the only real advantage in a room on a higher deck is it is further away from the noisy engines.  I would recommend you call Carnival and ask them to assign you exactly what you want.  Your travel agent is trying to get a bigger commission since airlines no longer pay commission and cruise lines do, he is working in his own best interests and not yours, which is unethical.  Do not use this agent ever again.  Btw, many travel agents do charge a premium over what the cruise lines do for the same trip.  You can always upgrade or get offered an upgrade later if you choose your room now.  My recommendation would be to get one in the middle lower levels or above.  That way you won't be right above the engines and will be sufficiently insulated from the noise of the party goers at the casinos and clubs onboard.  I hope you enjoy you vacation and don't run into any further issues.  This sounds like your first cruise, and if it is, don't forget to allow $10/day minimum for tips.

  7. the advantage is,,,you pay for a simple, lower level cabin, and if someone wants that yopu could be moved higher up the deck chain, or into a oceanview room. booking guarantee is a good way to go if you dont care where your room is.....i always choose my room, and i believe the deposit is more to do that but you'll get the same food and service so it really doesnt matter....have an awesome time
