Question:

I booked my parents a Jamaica vacation for their 25th anniversary?

And now I'm starting to freak myself out reading the mixed reviews of it. I don't want to sound ignorant, but reading this makes me feel like they will be in danger if they go.

They are staying at in all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay (Iberostar Rose Hall).

Any input on this? I think I'm looking for reassurance really. I'm starting to wonder if I should have booked it for somewhere else.

Any advice or anything like that would be appreciated!

Thanks.

  1. I'm sick off people trying to make Jamaica look and feel like it's Iraq or ******** Pakistan were people get blown up every day.I man live in London and am telling you it's worst than any where in Jamaica,in  London i get rob three time at Knife point, and i went to Jamaica and spend two months and never even get hassle, and yes,i man  wear gold chains and dress up every day.People in the resort will tell you to stay on the resort compound, reasons been they want you to spend our money their.Jamaica is very safe,if you go their to Fuljoy yourself you will got noting to worry about, yes there are crimes, but so do every where.if you are from the UK and you watch the news you will see there shootings, stabbings, and even kidnaps.but no one talk about that. But as soon has something happen in the Caribbean the media use it and scare people away, tell me am wrong? there was a shoot out in London the other day in an affluent area where some people got shot and kill. Are you afraid of going to London? probley not.So my advise is,tell your parents to relax and  take in the breath taking greenery and the turquoise water, and yes try some white rum....your parents Will want to go back to Ja again and again....

  2. I stayed there last year.  We went with a group and had a very good time.  If your parents want to do some sightseeing, the front desk will set them up with a tour or a driver for the day.  They really should at least get out and see some of the countryside.  That side of the island is beautiful.  The people are very friendly everywhere you go.  As far as safety, it's much safer than going out in New York City.  Just as any place, be smart and aware.  No problems.

They will have a very good time.

  3. Jamaica is a safe place...overall, at least for tourists on the north side. Rose Hall is very esclusive 5 star resort, so your parents are very safe. They will LOVE it there. Only issue with being held captive on the resort, is not experiencing the REAL Jamaica....you almost could have just booked them a Hotel in Miami.

If they leave the resort, the hotel has buses to take them & the drivers responsibilty is to look after them as they shop, so no worries ;-)

  4. Iberostar hotel is a beautiful hotel, personally i have never been there but from the outside its beautiful and its huge, there building more rooms to accomodate more tourists. Look Jamaica is a beautiful country and every country has there own problems. The big U.S. has more crime and violence than us, ours is recognized more because we are a small country. We are a nice people and our country is beautiful too. one day when u decide to take a vacation come to Jamaica. you'll enjoy it.

  5. They should be fine as long as they don't leave the resort.  If the resort has their own tours, that may be OK, but no guarantees.

  6. Have you tried going to tripadvisor.com?  There are lot's of reviews from people who have been there recently.  Maybe they will help you feel better about things.  I've been to Jamaica many times and never had any problems.  We usually stay at Sandals Negril, there is so much to do right at the resort that if they feel like it they can just stay put.  The daughter of the year award to you!  Can I adopt you?

  7. Although the island itself may not be entirely safe, the all inclusive resorts are generally in nice areas and they should not have a problem...They will just need to make sure if they venture away from the resort they are with an organized tour group...That is an awesome gift and I am sure they will have a blast! You are a wonderful daughter!

  8. from y experience they shoudl stay in the resort and only go out if there is a guided tour they can go on. these areas are pretty safe .

  9. I got married at Montego Bay Sandals. It's a very beautiful place. On the resort they will feel very safe and comfortable. If they go on exclusions ( which is also great ) , be prepared to get a little pressure to buy things. It was always in a nice way, but it bugged me at the shops. I got use to saying no. I would not rent their own car. That might not be too safe. I hope they have a great time. We are planning on going back soon.
