Besides borrowing his camcorder, is there something I can buy to watch this. I think I remember something like a bigger video tape that fits little ones into it... am I right? What is this called?

  1. It depends on if the tape is a minidv tape or a vhs-c tape. minidv is digital and there isn't an adaptor for that. The vhs-c is analog for an old camcorder, there is an adaptor for that and you would be able to watch that through your VCR. Ask your friend if his camcorder is minidv or analog that takes vhs-c tapes.

  2. There are only two things that will play a MiniDV tape, a MiniDV camcorder or a dedicated MiniDV tape player. You can buy MiniDV camcorders starting at around $200. Dedicated MiniDV tape players are used by professional video editors and cost over $1,000. Your best bet would be to borrow your friend's camcorder to watch the tape. If his camcorder has A/V out, you could make a copy with a VCR or DVD recorder.

  3. I'm not sure what the name for it is, but you are right. It is just like a regular VCR tape that it fits into. It most likely uses batteries too.  I need to get one myself and transfer tape to DVD.  Let us know where you find it at?
