Question:

I bought 6 lovebirds for my aviary 2 weeks ago and i put nest boxes in last week plz help

i have 4 nestboxes and 3 pairs of lovebirds,they will sit on the nest boxes but wont go into them,how do i get them to start breeding, the aviary is 6 and a half foot high and the nest boxes are 6 inches from the top,i also have put branches and leaves off an apple tree in the bottom of the aviary and they wont go near them what can i do,the aviary is indoors but they get some sunlight and i leave the door open so they have a brease what can i do plz plz plz help me asap

  1. I suggest educating yourself about lovebirds and their breeding habits long before you put boxes in with them. They are going to breed on their own time and you have not given them a chance to know each other well enough to have bonded good enough to breed yet.2 weeks is not long enough for them to find a mate in the crowd.


  2. give them time,if you have any willow trees,take a few branches and put those into the aviary love birds love to peel strips off to make there nests it is fun watching them collecting the strands they put the bits under there wings and fly to there boxes half of the time they loose most and have to start all over again

  3. Hi,

    They won't breed that quickly, they probably won't breed till next year now as they need to settle in and feel safe before breeding happens.
