I bought Microsofts 360 VGA Cables?

and with the cables came an extra pair of VGA hook up, and a plug-in sound device splitter, that allows me to hook up the white and red audio cables and make it one. So since my Pc Monitor doesn't have built-in speakers, how can i hook this device up to make sound go through my laptop speakers instead. Like i said, this splitter that came with my VGA cables allows me to hook up these 2 audio cables and make it one and i can plug it into my headset jack or microphone jack. But i can't get any sound through it. Is it possible to? How can i get sound to go through?
