  1. You need to call Shareholder Services office at the company that acquired the company who issued your stock certificate. It's best if you have the actual certificate in hand when you make the call. However, a good shareholder relations person can research a lost certificate for you. My wife is one of the best share holder services managers in the USA, and she deals with these issues regularly. Money is serious business.

People can get very emotional. Keep a level head and be courteous. Whoever gave you the runaround before is probably not connected with shareholder services.

This may take some time so be prepared to work with the person for at least a couple of weeks or more depending on the time frame between the acquisition and today. Again, be courteous.

If your broker has the certificate, call him/her and ask for help as well. But I suspect this is not the case because a competent broker would have contacted you at the time the company was acquired.

As long as the company associated with your stock certificate did not file bankruptcy before it was acquired, your stock will have the value at the time of the company's purchase plus whatever increase/decrease the stock has gone through since. This is not the best time to sell most securities because we are in a sideways (leaning towards bear) market.

  2. if you said you bought the stock from the former company which mean you have the receipt of the stock you bought then you can use this as an evident to claim for your stock. then you claim it with the presence of the authorities or a lawyer, because 1983 is very long way to claim something, watch out if you bought the things cheaply and a lawyer cost double then you have to think over before you move.

have a talk with the present proprietor of the company with the receipts of buying take someone with you as your witness otherwise you will be charge or harassment if talking goes bad, it will turn against you

  3. keep it invested for a long time say five years  it will multiply four times
