Question:

I bought a 2000 Dodge Dakota in an auction and I just found out that my registration fees are over $800?

My question is? Is there a way around this or do I have to bite the bullet and pay the fees? I would think that I would resume responsibility after the purchase date over the vehicle since I bought it from the auction and not take on any other past responsibilities. HELP!

  1. what did you pay for the truck? normally you pay taxes and fees when you register it. my 2000 toyota was like 9 grand, i think i paid $500 to register it.

  2. ouch dang

our 01 Dakota we purchased in 04 cost us just over $1k to register/title / taxes /fees & all.

Sounds really high for an 8 year old vehicle, even a nice dodge dakota!

  3. What, you didn't know there would be fees to change the title, pay the taxes, and put plates on it?  $800 is not that high of an amount, and you could have found out what the fees were by contacting the DMV prior to bidding on it.

  4. did you take your bill of sale from the auction with you? What percent of the $800 is sales tax, and no states don't base sales tax on what you paid for the vehicle they have standardized rates.

as far as i know if you have proper paper work in hand you can't be held responible for back taxes on a vehicle.
