  1. A goldfish needs a minimum of a 20 gallon tank so you might want to rethink your fish choice.  An 8 gallon tank is not very big and would house a betta with a few small fish or 3 platies or 2 mollies or a school of 6 tetra's.

You will need to cycle the tank before you add any fish.  http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles...

  2. get some gravel of your choice, get some decor and add some plants if you want to oh and dont forget ot cycle it.

  3. (sorry if anything says betta)

This will  most definitely help you prepare for a new aquarium.

This was my answer for a very similar question.

    There are many questions above.

I'll do my best to answer all, in words that you'll understand.

    1. You can either use tap water(from your sink), or bottled water.

If using tap water, you need to go to the pet store, and buy water conditioner, or "dechlorinater" And add one cap full for every five gallons.

You only need a tiny bottle.

    2. Its probably a good idea to treat your water, just incase.

You don't want to stress the fish more than they already are from transportation.

    3. Stress coat is optional.

I didn't do it, and my fish are fine.

    4. For a betta, no, a heater is not necessary.

    They are pretty adjustable.

Unless, your house is way cold.

    5.

    a) You need to buy rocks, and wash them throughly (water only)

    b) You are going to need a fake plant. Not too big that it takes up to much of the tank.

    c) After you have the rocks and plants in, its time to put the water in. When putting the water in, you need to make it as room tempurature as you can feel. Fill it up to where there is about half an inch left.

d)Next, you put the water conditioner in. (there are instructions on the back.

    e) You need to let that sit for a day or two.

    f) Then you are ready to go buy your betta.

    g) Once you have your fish your tank will be ready to go, and all you need to do is put the fish in.

    h) The fish will come in a bag full of water, the fish, and oxygen.

    i) You need to put the bag as far into the water as it can go.

DO NOT open the bag yet.

Once the bag with the fish in it is carefully placed in the tank, go watch a TV show.

The fish needs to get used to the water temp. in order to reduce stress.

    After about 20- 30 minutes.

Hold the back COMPLETELY under water, and cut the top. Let the bag will with water from your tank, and then slowly dip it over, releasing the fish.

You water will be a bit cloudy for a few days, its just the bacteria getting settled and adjusted.

You will also need a pH test kit, and an amonia test kit(about a dollar each)

*Things to buy at the pet store*

    tank

    rocks

    water conditioner

    net

aqurarium salt( adding a teaspoon will sooth its gills, making it less stressfull)

    test kits

    fake plants

(Probably a heater would be a good idea for you)

*depends on the kinds of fish)

It should all average out to about 20-30 dollars US currency.

    Good luck

    Sorry for all the typing.

  4. Cycling a tank before the fish are added is always a good idea.  Here is a website that will show you how to cycle your tank:  http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/aqu...

Here's the official biorb explanation on establishing the aquarium:  http://www.biorbfishtanks.com/index.asp?...

And washing your decorations is a good idea, but don't use soap.  Soap will kill your fish.  And the comment on goldfish outgrowing the biorb is valid.  A goldfish can actually grow surprisingly large, and many people are surprised when their fish gets too large for their tank.  You might want to try six female bettas instead.  Bettas will not outgrow that tank.  Females can live together, while males cannot, by the way.  Here are pictures of some pretty female bettas for sale:  http://www.jjbettas.com/stockshop.htm and here http://bettatalk.com/stock_for_sale.htm#... (scroll down)

  5. Well you basically have to wash the decorations and you also have to buy http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js... this if you add tap water than let the water sit for 1-2 days lastly you add a goldfish. And you do know that the goldfish grows 2 feet long and it will have to live in a at least a 25 gallon tank if you can't afford to handle a goldfish buy a male betta OR buy 10 neon tetras

  6. heres what you should do before you add the goldfish.

Buy a bigger tank. 8gallons is not even big enuff to be a sump on a goldfish tank.
