  1. There's nothing to appeal against.  The insurance company have written it off, and that will forever be noted on the vehicle's record.

What would worry me is that Cat C means extensive damage, which will have been decided on when the insurer's inspector examined it.  I'd have a professional look at it, I'd guess there's far more damage than meets the eye, I'm afraid.

For what it's worth, Cat A means the vehicle must be crushed and never returned to the road, Cat B means some parts may be salvaged but the shell must be crushed, Cat C means extensive damage which can be repaired and the vehicle subjected to a VIC check before it goes back on the road, and Cat D means damaged but repairable without the need for a VIC check.

An insurance company won't have written it off just for a broken window, there's more to it than that.

  2. just get a new back window. the reason it was a cat c is because  a new back window pane would have cost more than 75% of the cars book value. being a cat c wont make any difference to the vehicle once the glass has been replaced. so i wouldnt worry about it.

  3. you can change cat's but its to late now...whilst the car was being inspected we used to have a word with the assesor ,who would change cat's for us if we wanted the car...if it got a 'c' just because of the rear  glass then it may have been an exspensive glass to change..keep in mind that even a dint on any other pannels would have added to the cat 'c'......if you want to appeal then why did you buy it known its a 'c'?
