I bought a DELL Notebook and want to ship it to my relatives in HCM City.?

The Notebook weights about 11 Lbs. What should I do to avoid paying Vietnamese tariff tax?

They'll charge you for the duties and taxes (there is a value added tax between 10 and 20 percent applied on CIF + duty), and you'll be lucky if it ever reaches destination...unfortunately Dell does not ship to Vietnam, it does to China and usually shipping costs are included but that won't help you...if it is a used item, it may be exempt from VAT or tariff depending on specific agreements of your country with Vietnam

nothing..they will xray & open the box & find out that it's a laptop.

Tariff tax is big business for their govt...especially with stuff from the U.S.

Believe it or not, you can ship things to Vietnam now :-), so some of the answers here might not be entirely correct.  However, it is also true that for a DELL notebook, you will also have to pay tax.  If you live in some places closer to big Vietnamese community, e.g. Bay Area in Northern California or around Orange Country in Southern California, there are many places doing this for you, at the cost of, as mentioned, between 10% and 20% of the value of the item.

Another possible option is for a friend visiting Vietnam to do this for you.  Of course it will be a favor (s)he will be doing for you, but the advantages there are a) safer (as you could put this laptop into a carry-on or backpack, as I did during my trip there in the summer) and b) cost-saving (the friend would just hand the laptop to your friend and come back empty-handed :-).)

dont send anything like that through the mail if you want them to get it.. find someone who is going to vn and have them hand cary it.
