I bought a Hyundai Accent yesterday and hate it. If I've already signed the contract can I return it? I don't know if they found financing for me already.

  1. maybe.... it seems when you look the car over and test drove it you would have seen that it wasnt right.... id be at the car lot waiting too see anyways

  2. Take it back ASAP.

  3. Don is right on.

Purchasing a car is not like purchasing a shirt at Wal-Mart

There is no such thing as a 3 day grace period when you purchase a car.

You are better off taking it back to the dealer to see if you can negotiate into another car they have on the lot.

Although the dealership has no obligation to do so, if you admit you made a mistake and wanted to get another car from their inventory, they may make an exception for you.

Otherwise, you will have to trade it in and would get hammered financially.

Just make sure you don't go in there acting like it was their fault you bought a car you didn't want.

  4. Honestly, I don't know if you can return it, but I'd call them to find out if you can return before they find financing for you, because you may have a chance of returning it before a bank gets involved in it.

My husband has a Trail Blazer. What gas mileage do you get with this new car?

Now my husband is taking my HHR (also Chevrolet) to work (I'm in college and right now I'm not taking classes so the Trail Blazer is just being driven close to home). My HHR gets a 30mpg on the highway, it's very comfortable, I love that car!

And I don't think it's much more expensive than the Accent.

    It's just a suggestion anyway.

Now, if you are able to return this new car and want to get a new one (and can afford another one a little more expensive - or maybe even the same price as the Accent - it may be hard but not impossible), look at this website, it helps with the most and least fuel efficient cars.

But that's true: even if you have to stay with this car for now, you'll save a lot of money until (and if) gas prices return to "normal". Or until you can save money and buy a hybrid. That's what I want to get as a new car, but I'll have to wait at least 3 more years anyway (until we pay off our new cars). Until then, we'll use the 30mph on the highway car the most.

All the best to you, no matter what choice you have to make!

  5. Well, most dealers have some sort of return policy that will last for maybe a couple of days. With this said, when you return the car, you will get your money back, but most likely not the destination charge. The Destination Charge for the Accent is $620.

Best of Luck with Returning Your Car

  6. I believe most dealerships offer a 3 day period where if you don't like it you can take it back, so don't wait go and talk to them NOW

  7. First off. Even if you signed a contract, you still have a grace period to return the car if you find it less than satisfactory. All dealerships allow that. But the exact period depends on that dealership as well as weather its a New car or old car.

Having said that let me put few words for the Accent. I had a 04 Accent that I sold recently. I am perfectly aware that it has a tiny 1.4 engine that's pretty sluggish at times. Especially while on AC or freeway or both. But that's what gives such great Gas Mileage. I had that car for roughly 4 years. I have absolutely no complaints. No maintenance problems. I did take the car through Yosemite & surrounding Mountain Roads. Still no complaints.

Last but not the least. I do understand why you'd be frustrated on the freeway performance. Especially when you moved from Trailblazer to Accent. Its a Hugh shock. If you are a bit patient, you will get used to it. If you don't have AC on as well, then it will be much easier. Having AC on is a large drag on the engine. Almost as if you are towing.

Be patient its a great car! Good Safety record & great warranty.

P.S. Congrats on the new car!

  8. how embarrassing

  9. Not unless the dealer offers a return privilege. You have no legal right to return it, and the dealer is under no obligation to accept your return and cancel the deal. Car sales are final, and there's no "right to cancel" or "buyer's remorse" laws in any state when it comes to automobile purchases.

  10. Ok - first things first.  You bought the car - and you have to honor the legally binding contract you signed.  Period.  There is no cooling off period - or extended test drive plan.  Once you sign the docs and drive away, you are an OWNER.  There is no law that gives you time to change your mind.

Now, as for the reason you hate the car, poor power is the tradeoff for great gas mileage, which is why you bought the car in the first place.  Sure the Accent will seem sluggish - you have half the cylinders and probably less than half the horsepower of the SUV you traded in.  BUT - he who laughs last laughs best, and you can laugh when you pass all the people who drove past you on the highway as they stop at every other gas station for a fill.

You may not have been around in the 70's - but this is a case of history repeating itself.  Imagine trading in a 68 Mustang fastback for a Pinto...

  11. Moving from a large powerful SUV into a small economical car will take some adjustment period.  Giving up that large ride for a small car isn't easy.  Just give it time, you'll get used to it.

Log the gas miles and fuel costs for a month and compare that to the SUV.  Then tell yourself that's the reason why you made the switch.  After 3 month's you won't miss the truck at all.

  12. I believe you have 3 business days to return the car. They may or may not charge you mileage since I dunno what the rule is on that exactly.

  13. there is no such thing as a grace period or trial basis.

your best advice is to return to the dealership and see if they will get you into a better one.

    look at the Hyundai Elantra.

they will be more willing to deal if you want another car not just to get rid of the one you bought.
