I bought a Photosmart 8180

Question

I bought a Photosmart 8180 partially to deal with slides and am unable to get it to work properly. I got it to work once and have not been able to get it to do anything other than scan the area where the slides are as though it's taking a photo of the area--not scanning the individual slides.
