  3. Yes those are both good ideas.

Peel, core, & slice them, then blanch to prevent browning.

If you don't want to use boiling water, try lemon or orange juice.

  4. Can them.=)

  5. You could make apple sauce, maybe toss in some cinnamon in a few jars for added flavor.

Spiced Apples, Apple Jelly, Apply Preserves, Dried Apples, Fried Apple Pie Filling (this can be canned as well).

However if canning is too time consuming, you can freeze the apple sauce in small single serving tupperware containers so you can have applesauce all year long

Or even make baby food :)

  6. My father has a Bramley apple tree (cooking apples) that

is groaning with fruit this year.

What he does is pick the fruit, peel and core it, and

then put it into a pan and cook them for about 5 minutes.

When the mixture is cool he puts it into ice-trays and

freeze it. You can make apple & blackberry pies, apple

sauce (for lamb dishes) and other things.

    Ingredients

2 large tart cooking apples (such as green Granny Smith, not those pictured), peeled, cored, and chopped

    1/2 cup chopped onion

    1/4 cup red wine vinegar

    1/4 cup brown sugar

    1 Tbsp grated orange peel

    1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger

    1/2 teaspoon allspice

    Method

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and stir well. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 50 minutes. Uncover and simmer over low heat for a few minutes more to cook off excess liquid; let cool. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

    Makes about 2 cups.
