I'm used to having mice so I know their eating habits but compared to them this gerbil seems to be eating a lot. She is about six weeks old and I am feeding her a mixed gerbil food of pellets and different seeds. It has wholesome elements and fatty elements. She loves all of it--and eats almost a full saki glass every day! Is this healthy, or will she become overwieght and have problems?

  1. I wouldn't worry as rodents have extremely high metabolisms. Also make sure it is not hording it somewhere in the cage as some rodents will do this.

  2. She is just hungry. Nothing to worry about unless she starts to cost to much to feed!! If that happens change her diet - feed her rice

  3. I thing that if you look she has hide it in the cage some were, mine have hide there bowl now and then,

  4. My dwarf can eat a half a bowl in one night, and he barely hides any of it. It's just because she is growing and needs the energy and nutrients it gives her.

  5. If your vet specializes in gerbils, call her up and ask. It should give you a feeding chart on the back, follow that.  Remember, they do store food in their cheeks, so I usually wait up to two days to feed mine again.

  6. Feed him... A LOT

  7. Are you feeding her a lot?

I am not sure, maybe that is just her!

As long as she is not overweight, I guess it is fine! But, remember, more eat, more p**p!
