  1. Have you paid him the other $350.00 ?  If you have not, you don't deserve the title yet.  If you have paid him in full, he has the legal responsibility to provide you with a merchantable title.  You should never ever pay in full for a car without having the (valid) title in your hands.  A bill of sale won't get you a title.

You cannot.  Only the current owner can get a replacement title.  it is simple - (the current owner) just go to the DMV and fill out a form and fee.

If he doesn't have the title or is stalling you, get your money back.

    good Luck...

  3. Do exactly what Lover not fighter said and get your money back asap if the title doesn't show up immediately.  It isn't that hard to get a copy.  I hate to say this, but never buy a car until you are sure the seller has clear title to the car.

  4. If you know any mechanics have them place a lein on the car. It costs the shop about $75.00 to place the lein and then you get the title after they mail a letter to the current and former owners of the vehical and noone contests the lein.

You and the owner can both go down to the dmv and if you get a nice employee they will take care of it right there.

Dont give up the rest of the cash untill you get a title.

  5. Why give any money - trust me - it's not worth your hassel.

Just because the license plates don't come back as 'stolen' doesn't mean the car wasn't stolen - plates are mobile -

Did you run the VIN (even that can probably be altered if the car is from a 'chop shop') to see if the car was stolen?
