I bought a cell phone

Question

I bought a cell phone in the Philippines to bring to the US. When we tested the phone with three different SIM cards, it worked. Even with my AT&T SIM card, it worked. But now, in the US we try to put our cards in and it says no service. Is this because the phone is fake?
