If he was treated for kennel cough, he could have lost his ability to bark.

Other than that - this is the reptile section, and you are most likely to find the help you are seeking if you list this under the dog section.

wow that is great.

they are not much of barkers, only if they detect a threat or are scared.  they don't bark much at all, mine barks maybe like a few times a week, when someone rings the door bell or when she want to go outside.

Some dogs just don't bark.  Others may feel far too stressed or worried to bark until they feel more like this is home.  Nearly all of my dogs will not bark in the house (unless there's a very good reason.)  

The only problem you may have is if he's been taught not to bark at all at people and strange things that make him nervous.  A dog who doesn't give you that warning that he might be scared is an accident waiting to happen.  Where before he might have growled and barked to tell you he was scared of another dog, he may not bark until the other dog is too close and then just bite the other dog.  That would be my only concern.

Be thankful!!! My pit, Pepper hardly ever barks. She is always calm and quite. Blondie my Chihuahua  barks her head off. Drives me nuts.  I've threatened the feed the little one Blondie to Pepper, but Pepper runs from her because she hates the barking. LOL Good Luck and your dog should be fine.

i have a pitt mix and she rarely barks. its weird, but nice.

If him not barking is your biggest problem they you are on a good path :]. He probably just isn't vocal or was trained previously not to bark.

if your dog isn't barking he probably has an identity crisis.  he apparantally thinks he is a reptile.  anyway if it's a puppy sometimes they don't bark for a while.  our two doxies didn't start barking until we had them for almost a month...now they wont shut-up.  :)
