These curtains have a white backing to them. I believe it's cotton. Are these washable or should they be dry-cleaned? I hate to spend money dry-cleaning them if I find I don't have to.

  1. Dry cleaning is your safest bet.  If they are not dirty, just dusty, you can run them through the dryer on the "air" or "fluff " setting. Add a dryer sheet.  I  do this all the time with my long living room curtains.  They get dusty, not dirty, and dry cleaning is expensive!

    Good Luck!

  2. Try hand washing them in a mild detergent or just a regular bar of soap. Then hang them up to dry. Even if they needed to be dry cleaned, hand washing shouldn't hurt them.

  3. they can be washed in cold and air dry if the front side is not weaved. otherwise dryclean.

  4. If you're willing to risk losing them - wash them yourself.

When you're not positive about the fiber content (no tags to specify), your best bet is to get a professional to clean them.   At least if they ruin them, you'll get replacements.
