I bought a mike from radio shack and an adapter. what else do i need to be able to record?

You should be OK then - you'll need some recording software like audacity:

No idea what kind of adapter you have or why. All you need to do is plug the mic into the mic jack on the back of your computer (into the sound card if you have one or the MOBO jack if you don't) and then right click the speaker icon in the tool bar. Open the vol. control settings and follow the yellow brick road. For more critical work you will need more advanced software or a better sound card that comes with other options, such as a "sound blaster" card.

what are you recording on to. ( tape disk what)
