I know I made a really big mistake, but here's my situation. I bought a bike in June 2007. I was dating my ex at the time. three months later, I decided a bike was not for me, so I lent it to him. He made the payments, and we agreed that the name would be transferred to him. I was busy with work at the time, but never took the iniative to get it transferred to his name. We ended breaking up. A little later, the bike was stolen. Everything is under my name. I talked to him about a week ago. He said he would still have it transferred to his name because it was his fault. Verbally, we know it's his responsibility, but by hard proof, it's mine. Now, he's been avoiding me to get everything transferred to his name. What can I do? I don't want bad credit (He already made some late payments).

  1. If it is financed, it should be required to have full coverage insurance on it. Don't wait for your ex to do anything. report it stolen. The payments and responsibility for the bike is yours.

  2. Ok, first of all. You cant just transfer a title into his name. If you are financing it, you can not leagally sell it to your b/f. Its actually illegal. B/c you dont own the bike, whoever you got your loan through, legally owns the bike until it is paid off. 2nd, File the bike stolen with the police department, Give them your b/fs name. B/c i know what really happen anyways.

You're ex boyfriend, sold the bike. It wasn't stolen. He sold it and kept the cash. Now hes not going to tell you to file it stolen b/c he doesn't want to go to jail for selling a bike that isn't legally his. I would call the cops and file it stolen and just say, I let him borrow the bik, he never brought it back. We didn't agree on payments, i dont know what you are talking about. Stick to that plan, and your insurance will cover the bike and pay it off for you.

  3. It is stolen. It makes NO difference who's name it is in.

Just call the cop and report it.

    Good Luck...

  4. Do you have Comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy? If you do call your insurance company. They will be suspicious if you lent your boyfriend the bike and he wasn't named on the policy, but it's worth a shot.

Otherwise your on your own, unfortunately whoever owns the bike ( the title is in their name) is responsible for the payments, care and proper protection for the bike. Legally, you would have a weak case against your ex.
