Question:

I bought a motorcycle last week & it has a bad battery. Should I expect the dealer 2 give me a good battery?

The dealer didn't tell me the battery was bad. I have had to re-charge the battery every time I take it out. Family says the dealer should have given me a good battery and that I should go ask for one. My fiance says that's part of buying a used bike. What do you think?

  1. The dealer should have checked, but unless you had a warranty, they're probably not responsible.

You can ask, nicely. The most they can say is no.

  2. go get a good battery from dealer....

  3. if its a new bike, take it back and have them check the charging system as long as its under warranty. batteries usually have 6 month warranties and bikes usually have 1 year warranties, the battery might not be bad but the charging system might be.

  4. That's a risk of buying used.  It wouldn't hurt to take it back and ask.  Sooner the better and the worst that'll happen is they say no.

  5. Go back and talk to the dealer. Chances are he'll give you a new battery. They had to know it was bad when they sold it. A new one shouldn't be too expensive anyway though.

  6. On Mother's Day my other half, known as s**t Bunny, bought herself a big road bike, name and type is not important as the fact is she is sharing the same wind and black-top as ALL other riders, anyhow, I pointed out the tires were rather weather checked (sidewalls were cracking) and they were replaced at NC.. When they went to "test ride" the bike after tire change, the battery was dead. They gave it a quick charge but it too was as bad as the tires, and it too was replaced @ NC. These things SHOULD be covered by the seller unless it is sold - AS IS..! And stated so before price haggling and dotted line signing. I would ask for a new battery..!! (hope it's just the battery and not a bad charging system).. Bob - Tucson

  7. Ashley, It depends on the terms with your purchase. Some times there is a standard 30 day guarantee. So, only by asking the dealer will you know. Don't hedge, talk to the manager and see what they will do for you. (Be seen holding a shiny new Shoei helmet as you ask). Good luck!

  8. used bike, the shop new it was getting bad they could have topped it off for you with a new battery atleast. But also you can get a trickel charger called Baatery Tender for about 29.00 us. I keep one on my bike at all times when parked at home and this has allowed me to keep the same battery for 5 years.  Bike battey's do not last due to not being charged with low amp. Don't use a big auto charger, the amps will evaporate all the water. Also you can top off your battery with distilled water alsmot to the top of each plug. unless it's a sealed unit ( no plugs)

  9. Call right away and ask them what they are going to do for you.  As it was wisely pointed out, it could be more than just the battery - it could be the charging system.

    Good luck.

  10. ha ha ha!   dealers don't give anything away!   ha ha ha!

let me tell you something, motorcycle dealers are lowlife scumbags, they would take the last $5 off their own mother when she's starving!

  11. I would call the dealer and ask for a replacement battery. The point of buying from a dealer a used bike is that a dealer usually inspects and restores their vehicles to workable condition, as opposed to the "as is" purchase from a private seller. Usually, if you call and say something, the dealer will replace in hopes of keeping you coming back for your next purchase.

  12. i think that you should get another battery and tell them that you will never do business with you again, just in a nice way

    hope this helps
