I bought a muffler tip that you bolt on to the tail pipe

Question

I need to know how far the tail pipe needs to be inside the muffler tip, so it has a nice loud sound. I just went to advanced auto parts and baught a crome muffler tip, to fit over the original tail pipe

It wont sound any different, no matter how you mount it.  Just make it look right.

The chrome tip isn't going to do anything for sound.  If you want to change the sound, you have to change the muffler and/or resonator.  The tip is only for looks so you should place it where you think it looks the best.

Adjust it to where it LOOKS good...who cares about the sound?

Hay if you want a cool sound, change your muffler.The extension just dresses up the end of your exhaust system
