  1. Typically for a wedding you'd want a nice standard zoom with  a large aperture. It really depends on your budget, but for a canon rebel i would recomend the tamron 17-50 F2.8. Its a fast, reletively inexpensive and great lens for capturing moving people in low light as well as the perfect zoom that can get large groups of people and zoom to get more personal.  You may also want a mild telephoto for those times you cant get so close.

  2. For a wedding, you ideally want a fast lens (one which has an aperture of f/2.8 or wider). If you're on a budget, then I agree that the Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] is worth looking at. It's a very good lens and won't break the bank. Unlike the overpriced and heavier, Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS, which is a better lens overall...however it's expensive. Or there are many other choices available, including primes (single focal length).

  3. for wedding, especially indoor. you need a faster lens and asisted by speedlite if the lighting condition wasn't very desirable.

try hunt down a few f2.8 lens with standard zoom range. and compare one by one.

for MTF chart of each lens, can go to www.the-digital-picture.com

i myself could only afford the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 lens. and it works wonder.
