Good evening, everyone. I have just finished plugging in my new computer and it's finally running. The only problem I am having is the resolution. The monitor is very large, about 16 inches wide, and I have no idea which resolution number it should be. Right now it's on 1024 x 768 pixels and everything is stretched. :( I've tried editing the numbers but I don't find the correct resolution.

My old computer had it perfect...but I broke it.. :( Anyone help, what do you use if your monitor is large?

  1. it could be 1440x900 or 1200x800, 1650 x 1050...

find the model of the monitor the pic looks like it's wide screen. it'll stretch out the 1024x768.

  2. If u find that the options regarding to the resolutions ure able to pick from are limited try updated the drivers for that card.

ure monitor is either a 15" or 17" or 19"

if its 15 then the 1024X768 is correct

    17 and u want the 1280x768

mostly its just personal choice, whichever u feel comfortable with

  3. I had the same Problem when I bought my new monitor, my video card (on board, came with the computer) wasn't set up for a wide screen display, so I went and bought a new video card (nvidia 8400)

    I now have it set at 1440 x 900

so it is possible that you might need to upgrade your video card if you are not seeing wide screen resolutions in your Display Properties / Settings.

  4. It is pointless to post screen captures.   If you want to show what your screen looks like you have to take a picture of it.

I would guess that you have a 19" widescreen monitor - if you want to check then measure the viewable screen diagonally from corner to corner.

If that is correct then you want to set the desktop resolution to 1440 by 900.   Then everything will look undistorted. - Unless you have a non-wide picture that gets displayed full screen.

  5. There's your problem.  Your monitor is obviously widescreen (16:10 or 16:9), and 1024x768 is a standard (4:3) resolution, so everything is squished.  You might want to try something like 1280x720
