I just bought a 1996 Subaru Impreza Sedan from a used car dealer yesterday, and i bought it for $2700. It was fine when I got it, but when I filled it up with gas the first time, that is when I had issues. First, there is gas leaking in the back of the car, and I was going to see the dealer tomorrow anyways. But I drove it home today after work, and when I got out i smelled smoke. I got out of the car and saw smoke coming from inside of my hood. I opened it and more smoke came out. Anyways, later I went under the car and noticed that oil was also leaking from the car, and everything seems rotted out. The car is a piece of c**p. It is a lemon. Is there anything I can do to get the dealer who sold me the car to give me a refund, or maybe bring him to court filing a lemon law? Please let me know because this is very important to me. Thank you very much.

  1. Lemon Laws only covers new cars. Look at your paperwork and see if you got a warranty of any kind. More than likely a 13 year old car was sold AS IS meaning no warranty. So you are just stuck as you should have looked at it better or had a mechanic look at it before you bought it.  There is no return on car deals either or a cooling off period. These may be minor things to repair as all used cars need something........ujn....................... there is not a 3 day return on cars. As to the poster who has a bad truck ..private party sales are all AS IS no warranty and as said before Lemon Laws cover new cars only.........ujn

  2. Yep get a lawyer, they are counting on you not to do anything, it is how they stay in business.

    Go get him.

  3. if the car has a 3 day return policy go back immediately.

  4. There is a thing called the "lemon law" in most states. Google it and see if you can find out more about it in your area. We are having the same problem with a truck we bought a few months ago, but we bought it from a private owner. It sux because the thing has been sitting for over 2 months because of problems.

    Good luck!

  5. That is, without a doubt, one of the most educational experiences you can ever have.  So if you decide to keep the car, you can look forward to a very rich experience.  After about 2 or 3 years, you'll be able to fix anything.

Now, if you're really set on staying ignorant about fixing things, you may not want to do that.

  6. You actually spent $2700 on a 1996 vehicle, d**n, they saw you coming. Also, you should never spend more on a vehicle than you make in a week. So, I guess you make over $100,000/year.  I am sure you can hire a lawyer with as much money as you make.
