I bought a rig (18-wheeler) and I can't get a title because the VIN# is not in the DMV database.?

I have tried every website that offers a VIN search and I cannot locate mine...can someone help me out? 2HSFTAER0XC041737.....I bought it at an auction in Mississippi in April and I have not been able to get it registered. PLEASE HELP ME....1999 International Eagle

  1. were there any numbers on the side of the truck like USDOT or MC number?  If you have these numbers, you might be able to research that way.

    Sounds like you are going to need to apply for a bonded title but the auction place should have given you SOMETHING.  How do you know it wasn't stolen??

    If you are IN Mississippi, you need to contact your Department of Motor Vehicles (or which ever government body regulates the issuance of titles) and see what they suggest.  Normally you will need to apply to a surety company for a lost title bond.  We do it in my agency and the cost of the bond is based on the ACV (Actual Cash Value) of the rig, not necessarily what you PAID for it.

  2. If you can't find the loser who sold it to you, contact the better business bureau in your area and ask what you should do.  theres got to be some sort of recourse.  good luck

  3. call up the basterd that you bought the semi from and ask him for his tab information and registration.
