  1. One is made of steel and the other is made of graphite.  What kind of question is this?  Flick at the shaft and it'd make different sound.  Graphite gives off plastic sound and steel gives out, uhmm, metalic sound.

  2. MAGNET !

  3. painted or not painted is the best way to tell

  4. steel  will be shiny and not bend as much. graphite will be bendy and be a dark shade.

  5. Graphite are painted  and on irons they are usually black or dark grey.  Steel will be shiny silver.

  6. if you cant tell the difference between steel and graphite, your vision may be too poor to play golf.  maybe.

  7. The steel ones should be silver, stiff and heavier than graphite

    And

The graphite should be more bendy/flexable, not a silver colour probably more of a black greyey one maybe and lighter than a normal steel shaft club.

And when you bought it should you have been told or asked if they were steel or graphite shafts first before you bought them.

  8. Steel shafts are typically unpainted, so they will be shiny.  Additionally, steel shafts will typically have "steps" in them - the diameter will change suddenly as you move down or up the shaft.  Graphite shafts are typically black or painted and smooth.

    Easy test:

Compare your iron shafts to the shaft on your driver - your driver will most likely have a graphite shaft.
