I bought an 42" HDTV and I knew that when I brought it home the picture would be crappy because we just have basic cable through the apartments. I asked my landlord if we could get a sattelite and she said that would be fine as long as the sattelite was free standing (not attached to the building) and we didn't drill any holes in the wall, basically we had to have flat wires that can be shut in the door.

So I signed up for DirecTV HD service and made sure they knew the stipulations according to our apartments. Well, the guy came to install it today and the first thing he said was that I was NOT going to be able to have the HD service because HD signal would not travel through flat wires. I told that I wanted to just cancel the installation if I could not get HD.

So anyway, now I have a great wonderful big flat screen TV with a really bad picture and Im bummed about it! What can I do? Do I just have to wait til I move somewhere else? Im sad :(

  1. Well if you want to be apart of the HD Revolution, the only option is to move.

  2. Drill now - fix later.  And I would have a look at the lease as the person above suggested.  And the worse the apt will do is charge extra when you move to fix the hole.  I can see them saying not to hang the tv on the wall, but little holes for a cable are nothing.

  3. do it anyway who cares what they said fixem when you move .

  4. if u brought it form the store.  and  if you apartments wont let u drill holes.  Then answer is simple.  Return it.

or drill holes.  Like he ever going to find out.  and when u leave apt for good fill those holes in.

  5. You might consider purchasing a HD picture frame antenna. (Surely your landlord will let you hang a picture)

This antenna will allow you to get all your local channels in HD and won't have to pay a penny extra. Simply google...HD Picture Frame Antenna and you will have dozens of sites to choose from.

  6. move to a diff house  lol

  7. Unless the installer clearly specified coax cable for HDTV, drill the darn holes ( or use cracks in the walls). The landlord/lady will never be able to prove the damage, unless photos were taken. Why have this pricey doorstop in your abode?

  8. who will tell that you drilled holes ?

    drill the darned things.

  9. Upgrade your cable service.  I get a great HD picture through digital cable and it's only $10 more per month.

  10. drill the holes and spakle them back up when u leave .. y did u ask in the first place and does it say no drilled holes on your lease ? if its not in writting then it wont hold up anyway

  11. Take it back.

  12. Well you can always fix the holes before you move out, Right? as long as you fix it they can not say too much too you, Just make sure you atleast get a person who knows how to  elimate and imperfections.... I do not forsee your apt complex finding out unless they due spot checks on the apt..... And I have satilite and that is so wrong they can attach without drilling call the customer service and let them know what happened I have a dish not drilled in to my roof. it is on a stand on my kitchen window.

  13. Are you saying you get basic cable through the apt complex (meaning they pay for basic)?

If that's the case ask the landlord if you can upgrade to HD cable and pay the difference. No holes will be drilled you will just be given a new HD cable box.

  14. Don't it come witha  stand
