When I push the power button on the DVD remote, it turns the television off. When I press chapter up or down, it changes the channels on my television. It is not a universal remote, but they are both RCA brand. None of the codes on my TV remote will work to control my DVD player. I don't want it to do that. Is there any way to make it stop?

  1. The only way to stop it would be to move one device to another room on another television. I know you do not want to hear this, but it is true. Your devices share the same infrared code and that is built in from the factory, unchangeable. Wish it was easier.:)

  2. On some remotes, there is a button to allow operation of more than one device. My guess is that you may have mistakenly pushed a button to operate the TV even though you want to operate the DVD player only. I have several remotes - SONYs in my case - that are just that way.
