Question

the instructions are made for a vertical sliding window is it possible to be used with a horizontal sliding window for those who might get horizontal and veritcal confused

What we did was put the a/c in the window and close the horizontal against it.. then put a piece of wood above to close the gap then used metal hangers on the outside to prevent if from falling out.  It's complicated but it stayed in place for 10 years until the new owners changed out the windows.

If your window is large enough for you to place it in vertically, you could possibly make a filler piece to go beside it so it would work.  I would take it back and exchange it if possible for the correct type window that you have.
