  1. Simply run them under hot water at the sink for 3 minutes or so. Then......use my favorite recipe YUMMMMY

    BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES

    1 gal. cucumbers

    8 onions, peeled & sliced

    2 green peppers, chopped

    2 red peppers

    1/2 c. salt

    5 c. sugar

    2 tbsp. mustard seed

    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric

    1/2 tsp. ground cloves

    5 c. vinegar

Place cucumber, onions and pepper in a large crock and sprinkle with salt. Pack in ice. Put a plate on top and weight it down. Let stand 3 hours.

Drain well. Combine sugar, mustard seed, celery seed, turmeric, ground cloves and vinegar. Put cucumbers (drained) in a large pan, pour over the mixture and simmer for 3 minutes. Seal immediately in hot jars. Makes 8 pints. Let stand for 1 week before serving.

  2. Just wash the wax off!  Use a rag and dishwashing detergent.  No problem!

  3. you can peel the cucumber.  you can wash it well in warm water. that will melt the wax. hope this helps

  4. I had a friend try anyways by scrubbing the heck out of them. They were the worst tasting things I've ever tried. And I love pickles so I was really looking forward to it. Good luck..

  5. use a bristle brush softly.

  6. the wax is on the outside of the cuccumber. if you are pickeleing them whole, then yes the salt wont be able to penetrate, but if you cut them into slices before you pickle them then the salt will be able to get in through the cut surface! nearly all of the b+b pickles you get in stores are cut for this reason!

  7. u need 1 gram of salt make sure u do.hope gos well.
