if your HDTV have HDMI input in the back you only need to connect the HDMI cable because the cable pass audio and video(sometimes need to be set in tv and receiver to be able to pass audio through the cable).

Unless you have an a/v receiver if you want surround sound you have to also connect the digital audio out optical cable from the directv to the a/v receiver.

  2. hi

uh ave connected it on the back of Ur TV connect the other 1

like if u live in the UK if u have sky or virgin or BT U on the box the provide it and u plug the other end in the box!!!

  3. On the back of the TV, there are a lot of places to plug stuff in to. Plug it into the one that has HDMI written near it and looks like something it would fit in to. If you have a Panasonic, the port is toward the middle.

  4. Your standard-def receiver does not provide high-def signals, nor does it support a HDMI cable.

You need to call DirectTV and upgrade to a HD unit. This will have a HDMI output.

Hint: Take the Monster cable back, after your upgrade, get a less expensive cable from BlueJeans or MonoPrice.
