Most commercial DVDs are dual-layer, which means they have twice the capacity of your DVD-R.  Most likely, that is why your film doesn't fit on one DVD-R and you get your "disk full" message.

You either need a dual-layer burner and dual-layer disks, or compression software to squeeze a movie onto a single disk.

Of course, copying movies is illegal, so I'm assuming these are home movies that you made yourself...

What dvd burning software did you use? I had the same problem with you before, then I switch to this dvd burner, it works pretty well now.
