I'd also like the process to use too. I'd like to use spray paint, will this work okay? I'm mainly concerned about the seats....

  1. I would think you should prime them first. I like bulls eye. Then you can spray them. If they are going to be exposed to weather you might desire an outside paint.

  2. Yes you can use spray paint. I would use Krylon, it lasts the longest, and in my experience is the best! What you do is: Sand the mood down so any stain or varnish is removed, wash down the wicker so its clean and give it a very fine sanding just enough to remove any extra bumps (nothing major). Then dust it all off, and spray paint and follow the Krylon directions. Depending on the type of Krylon spray you get you may need to get a clear gloss finish which Krylon makes, that will seal them. Good luck, I hope the chairs come out great!

  3. You need to sand the varnish to "rough it up"

so the paint will "stick" to the wood and wicker better. If the varnish finish is glossy, and some of it isn't removed, the paint may not adhere well, and in a few months of use and weathering, your paint may peel off. You may want to test the wicker by painting a small area of the underside of the seat to make sure it takes the paint okay. If it's plastic wicker, the paint may not stick anyway, unless you use a paint made to use on plastic. check the labels on the paint can before you buy it. Good luck with your project.
