I bounced a rent check?

this is the first check i wrote to my new apt. complex for rent. my bank had a hold on my paycheck and ended up returning the check to my account, since they tried clearing the payment before my direct deposit kicked in.

now that the money is officially in my account instead of "pending", do you think the complex office will still let me write checks??

  1. sure babe they(the complex office) will accept it now that the funds are there in your account. just talk to them and they will work with you.

  2. I believe that this happened to you the way it did.  When my tenants bounce a check, I usually just have them give me money orders for the next 6 months, then let them go back to writing checks.  If your apartment complex management is decent, just explain what happened with the first check, and see what they say.  Just because you bounced 1 check, doesn't mean you are a bad tenant.

  3. I suspect you will get a one time warning, and if it happens again they will only take cashiers checks or cash.  They realize moving is a very strange, and often expensive time, and I promise that this is not the first time someone bounced a check to them.

Go talk to the office and make nice nice... you should get to know these people anyway.

  4. I would just explain what happened to the rental office, maybe they will understand and let it slide this time, just make sure the money is in the bank before giving them the check.

  5. Not a good start.  They will probably not trust your checks for a good while.  Perhaps you might get a letter from the bank.  It couldn't hurt.  Good luck.
