  1. call an orthopedic and tell them you need to be seen asap.  this does not sound normal.

  2. You need to see a dr, but in the mean time, wrap your foot in an Ace Bandage (not too tight, but make it snug) for at least 10-12 hours per day and elevate it as much as you can.

A big part of the problem with the foot is that, due to gravity and it's location, it's hard for the body to get fluids/inflamation out of there without some additional help from you.  The bandages will help to push out the built up fluid and once the swelling starts to go away, the body can do what it needs to do to get better.

Don't rely strictly on info that you get at an ER.  They are trained to take care of the EMERGENT / URGENT medical need - but they are not trained to provide the kind of long-term or maintainence kind of medical care that you need to make sure that your foot heals correctly (and if it doesn't heal properly - you foot will give you problems from now on).

Good Luck - hope the swelling goes down and you feel better soon!

  3. keep your foot above heart level as much as possible that will help with the swelling.  If the doctor says not to walk on it don't.  My roommate fractured her foot and she had to wear it a month longer because she was walking on it.  If it hurts try ibuprofen.  It is an inflammatory/pain reliever.

Try calling your doctor to make sure you should be walking on it.

  4. You need to go to another doctor or hospital for a second opinion. No doctor in his/her right mind would tell you to take a brace off a broken bone after 2 weeks. It needs a cast if it is broken. Go get it checked out again. I hope you feel better.
