I broke the metal bit where the wire connects and.... i connected the wire to another metal part

i connected the wire to another metal part for now.. but my bass has dissapeared.what type of metal is it? i was thinking of using a souldering iron to "glue" the wire on but im afraid it may not work and ill jus f*ck it up even more.
