I avoid sugars as much as possible and when I do eat any food high in sugar, I immediately brush. I see the dentist twice a year for a check-up and every time I go to the dentist they find a cavity. It is weird. I do everything possible to keep my teeth healthy, but I completely fail. Could genetics be an explanation for my problem?

  1. Genetics can greatly affect the susceptibility of your teeth to cavities.  It maybe necessary for you to use a high fluoride toothpaste, this is much better at strengthening the tooth enamel of people who have tooth formation defects.  You may need a prescription however so it is best to talk to your dentist about the subject first to see whether it is the right decision for you.  And you shouldn't brush immediately after high sugar foods, give it at least 20 mins to an hour, as immediate brushing can cause damage.

  2. Try using ACT rinse once a day.

  3. Your brushing the good bacteria off. Theres certain bacteria that fights of plac and you're getting rid of that to.

You should just brush your teeth morning then evening.

My cousin had the same problem. The dentist will encourage you to stop brushing them so much :)

  4. Yes, you could just to prone to cavities like many people. I need fillings very often even though I use special tooth paste and brush all the time.

  5. Yes, definitely.

My mom has very straight but cavity prone teeth,

My dad has really crooked strong teeth and has never had a cavity

I've never had a cavity, and i have crooked teeth (like my dad)

My brother recently got some cavities, and he has straight teeth.

My dad never went to the dentist before hes started dating my mom (he was in hsi mid-30's) (due to Chinese practices, his parents didn't trust the dentist)

    So... YES!

  6. try switching to Crest gel with tartar control. I hear they fight the cavity creeps pretty well.
