Question:

I burned a movie onto a DVD-R, but it won't play. . .?

so, last night I burned a movie onto a blank, new DVD-R disc, and went to put it into my DVD player, which is supposed to play these disks. But when I hit play, it said, "DISK ERROR: PLAYBACK FEATURE MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE ON THIS DISK"

does anyone know what's wrong/how to fix it? The movie plays fine on my computer drive, btw.

  1. Well, there could be a few different issues.

First off, I presume you used a computer to burn this.  Try inserting the disc into the same computer, and playing it using a media player.  If it plays, you can be assured that the file is at least on the disk in some form.  If it does not, that means that there was an error with either a crappy disc, or the burner.

As I stated, it might just  be a crappy disc.  If possible, re-burn it, preferably to a disk of a different brand.  Then, try it out again; see if that resolves the problem.

If it does not, your DVD player may be at fault.  If you can, find a DVD-R disc that you already know can be played; perhaps one you've used in a different player, or borrow one from a friend.  Test it out in your selected DVD player, and see if it's working.

And if that fails, it may be the burner itself.  This can be difficult to test; however, if the disk won't even play in the computer from which it was burned, the burner or the disc are at fault.

In order to fix this, it depends on what turns out to be the issue.  If it's the disc, just use a different one, or if none of them work well, buy a different brand or set.

However, if it's the DVD player or the burner, in order to remedy the issue you'd most likely need to take it to a repair center.  If you have a warranty on the product, you can take it to the store or the manufacturer; whichever holds the warranty.

    Good luck =)

  2. Make sure that you finalize the disc after you burn it, so it will play in the dvd player.

  3. I have experienced this when using cheap blank DVD...the better the DVD player the better chance in having the disk play...some thing goes with audio CDs...In my old car I had to buy Maxell CD pro just so they would play in the car...the cheap stuff woudn't work...or it would work once or twice.

  4. You have to convert your video to DVD format (VOB or MPEG-2) at first, then burn it to DVD, or else it can't play on general DVD player, if you don't know how to convert and burn DVD, you may take a look at this step by step guide
