I was trying to unclog my bathroom sink with baking soda, vinegar, and boiling water. I fixed the clog in the bathroom but realized my bathroom sink was made from cheap white plastic material covering a marble like surface.

Now I have little burned holes in my bathroom sink. The sink is not leaking any water since it has some sort of a hard surface underneath the plastic material but my sink looks like a coral(cause of the holes). I was thinking maybe I should fix it by putting some waterproof plaster on it?

Good idea or bad? I know I should avoid draining the plaster down the sink but any advice will be appreciated.

  1. We all made mistakes!  I think you are going to have to purchase and install a new bathroom vanity counter.  This means you have to disconnect and remove sink and below connections,,, and also cut a new hole to fit your existing sink, then reconnect sink and below connections.

BTW if you DIY and cut the new sink top wrong <= that is sold at Home Depot and Lowes, then be prepared to buy a 2nd counter top ...so you might check ANGIE's LIST for area handymen and call around for competitive quotes.

  2. Whoo-EEE!  You definitely have a problem.  Rather than putting something over the sink to patch it, which will look like c**p, you'd be better off replacing the sink.

  3. LOL You can try to fix it but it will look like c###.Just replace the sink and be done with it.

  4. First, be sure that really it was the boiling water that did the damage. I have a feeling it may have been the chemical mix. Try a couple of tests.

If you find out you can damage it with boiling water get whoever supplied it to supply and install a replacement that's fit for purpose - at their expense, of course.

If you find out it was the chemical mix check out the cleaning instructions and then decide whether it's worth chasing the suppliers for a replacement, or if you should just accept responsibility for what you did and replace it at your own expense.

There are some companies that will repair this sort of thing but they're expensive and it seems as though this one may be beyond redemption anyway.

  5. Yeah, your sink is toast.
