  1. You caught a wild lizard, don't know what's wrong with it, can't call a vet, won't be able to tell what's wrong with it without giving at least some idea of what's wrong with it, and we can't tell you how to make it better without knowing what's wrong.

    Sooooooo......

Why not put it back in the wild and despite how "inhumane" it seems, let nature take it's course... either it will get over whatever's wrong with it, or something else will most likely eat it before whatever's wrong with it kills it. If you put it in a cage without seeking professional advice, whatever's wrong with it will probably take much longer to run it's course and be more stressfull/painful to the lizard than simply being snatched up and swallowed by a bird, cat, raccoon, snake, opossum, etc.

  2. let it go outside.

  3. The best thing to do is turn it loose where you caught it.  If that's not an option, you need to find out what "kind" of lizard you have there to know how to properly take care of it.

The most important thing about "all" reptiles is that they must be kept at an air temperature of approximately 80 degrees F.  Put the lizard in a terrarium (glass box) with a "metal" screen lid.  Hang a lamp above the cage and adjust the distance of the lamp until you get a constant 80 degree temperature on the floor of the cage (use a thermometer).  If the lamp is directly on top of lid and you still can't get the right temperature, then use a stronger bulb.

Put dry sand on the cage floor, and a small branch and rock.  Set a shallow dish of fresh water into the sand.

If your lizard is kept at the correct temperature and has fresh water at all times, he will not die unless there are other problems.

I don't know where you live or what kind of lizard it is, but the chances are it is probably insectivorous.  In that case, buy some crickets (large for a big lizard, small for a small lizard) from a good pet store.  Give him those, alive, and if he eats, and he should, you'll have yourself a pet.

If he does OK, keep it for awhile, enjoy watching him, and then turn him loose again.  You'll be happy and he'll be happy if you do.

Email me if you have any other questions, and especially if you find out what kind of reptile you have there.

  4. turn it loose
