no. they take only a certain # of people for each activity regardless of gender,then you must go where ever else they need help

Volunteer to ring up purchases, stuff envelopes, anything they want.  Don't whine about being a woman.

It's really popular to volunteer on a construction site, it's one of Habitat's hallmarks so everybody wants to build.   So much so that it's easy to have too many people getting in each other's way.  That slows everything down and becomes a safety issue.

It's not nearly so glamorous to work in a shop and that's where the bodies are needed.

No sexism involved what-so-ever.  Simple logistics and manpower needs.
