I'm 12 years old, so my mom won't let me take sleeping pills...

I try to go to bed at 11pm and just lie awake in bed until slumber finally attacks me at 5am! Then I automaticly wake up at 10am and I'm TIRED! WHY does this happen?! HOW can I end it?! I've been thinking up some causes... Stress maybe? I know it probably sounds ridiculous to you ppl... "Oh sureee a kid with STRESS! How believable." But my dad's been gone for a few months on a business trip so... Maybe that's it? Idk but I REALLY want to sleep peacefully. I have to find a way to shut my mind down! Help!

Thanks dudes!

  1. There is this pill called melatonin.  I first took it when I was about 10 years old. Its not bad for you because your body already makes melatonin to go to sleep normally. The pill just gives you some melatonin. You take it about an hour before bed and it makes you really sleepy.I had some of the best nights sleeps when I was on it. You cant get addicted to it coz your body already naturally makes it anyway. It just helps you to create a normal sleeping pattern.

Maybe you cant sleep because your anxious? You should definitely go to your doctor or a pediatrician and try to sort this out. They could help you get counseling if you want it.

Oh and if you dont want to do any of that then maybe you should try going to bed earlier and at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning, so your body gets used to th routine.

  2. I'm not one to advocate prescription meds as a solution, but I like you have those "mind crazy" nights where I cannot sleep.  I sometime use over the counter Benedryl just to take the edge off.  25mgs. should help.

  3. Yeah stress it tough, kids CAN get depressed... I would know. Anyway you should talk to your parents about Melatonin which is a natural non-prescription sleep aid that is NOT independent. If that doesn't work, and believe me I have the same problem. Your just going to need to stay up until you feel just slightly tired enough to go to sleep. Reading a book helps A LOT but I hate reading with a passion so I watch TV which is very stimulating and that can keep you up. But in all honesty your probably going through a stage since your only 12, but in any case keep bugging your parents about not sleeping and dont even think about lying there in bed trying to go to sleep when your not tired!!! That's the part that hurts, watch TV till you feel tired enough. Otherwise you'll be rolling around in bed watching the clock feeling completely awake and energized... It sucks, sleep aides, a better mattress, and if you really think it's stress then try to find a way to subsidize the stress and talk about it,

  4. i'm 14. SAME PROBLEM! i would go to bed at like 11 and then fall asleep at 5 and then wake up at like 4pm. i'd sleep the day away. but then last week. i did softball camp that TOTALLY weaaaaaaared me out like you wouldnt believe. and i forced myself to stay away every day and not take a nap until around 10 when i'd like pass out and wake up at like 10ish or 11ish the next day & i'd be fine.

so try just wearing urself out. likie excersiing and stuff. that'll help get ur sleep sched right and then ull just start feeling tired automatically.

  6. Same thing with me, and the thing is, no one takes me seriously. I go to bet at 1 am and end up sleeping at 6 am. Last night I fell asleep at 8.30 am, with a sleeping pill.

I sleep the whole day away.

I think you should put an alarm clock for 7 am, and get up, even if you feel horrible.

You'll be tired by 10 pm, and you'll probably be asleep by 2 or 3.

Also, try talking to your school Counselour, I know it sounds cliche, but it works, and they can help you get the medication you need to sleep.

    Good luck.

  7. to be honest with you if you feel super energetic a lot of the times and then sad sometimes the first thing that popped into my heaad was bipolar, becuase on a manic trip you usually need little or no sleep and your up again and have really high self esteem and then you get depressed.

just depression and anxiety alone can be cause of this sleep to.

i have it and thats what it does to me anxiety at least.

when you are depressed all you do usually is sleep.
