What do I do? I really want to go to school for dietetics..but, I can only afford about 5000 a year. I know..that's really pathetic! Please..my fiance won't let me take out loans (becuase he doesn't want us to be in debt), and my parents wont help me out. I'm 18..I really want to attend college this upcoming fall! Does anyone know of an extremely affordable college that offers Dietetics?

(...I don't qualify for any scholarships or financial aid..I already checked *sigh*...)

I'm so bummed...

  1. I know that for me, my education is more important than any relationship. If I were you, I would just take out loans and explain this to your fiance. If he loves you, then he'll understand.

  2. On your fasa are you being viewed as a dependant of your parents?  Is that why you do not qualify?  If so and you plan on getting married, then get married at that point you are an independant and maybe you and your fiance dont make so much and can then qualify for grants.  Only do this if you plan on getting married anyway and make sure you really want to get married then you will qualify for grants and can go to school.  Good luck

  3. join the club.Get a job and save up apply for aid. Try the military.

  4. Get a loan.  It's what everyone else does.

  5. Not many people can. If you can only afford to pay $5000 a year for college then you do qualify for financial aid, you're just not trying hard enough. And there are many scholarships that you don't need to be qualified for. Look into private scholarships at www.fastweb.com

  6. Listen, I'm on the fence about this. I consider myself a seasoned veteran when it comes to this kind of stuff. When I first entered college, I too ended up taking out over seventeen thousand dollars. I'm still in school and I'm still taking out more loans. I'm in so much debt that even when I'm middle aged I still won't be able to pay it off. Look, if you are going to take out loans, PLEASE make sure that whatever profession you choose to go into you will be able to pay back the loans with ease. After going to a ridiculous private school and majoring in something that will be rewarding personally, but not financially, I dropped out and went to a much cheaper school. I'm currently in nursing school and I love what I do, but it's worth all the loans, because I can easily pay back my loans after graduation. I understand why your fiance is so hesitant about taking out loans. If this is something that you really want to do, go for it. Apply for scholarships. Don't let money stop you from actualizing your dreams.

  7. OK first tell your fiance it's not of his business what you do with your finances.

Student loans are low interest and are probably the best investment you could make since they give you a better job for the rest of your life. Think of them as an investment. You wouldn't get mad if you put 5000 into the stock market or a savings account right?

Both me and my gf are in graduate school (she's in med school) and we each have over 100,000 in debt, but it doesn't matter because in a year we'll both be making more than that PER YEAR!

Just make sure to get student loans through the government or a credible lender with a fixed interest rate and deferment.
